President Trump to Appoint Misty May-Treanor As Co-Chair to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition

President Donald Trump on Friday announced his intent to appoint three-time beach volleyball Olympic gold medalist and volleyball coach at Long Beach City College (LBCC) Misty May-Treanor as co-chair to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition (PCSFN).

May-Treanor is the most decorated athlete in beach volleyball history, dominating the beach volleyball scene earning three gold medals for the sport at the Olympic Games in 2004, 2008 and 2012, as well as three gold medals in 2003, 2005 and 2007 and one silver medal in 2011 at the Beach Volleyball World Championships.

As an indoor volleyball champion, she won one bronze medal at the Pan American Games in 1999, one NCAA Division 1 Championship at Cal State Long Beach (CSULB) in 1998 and two California State Championships at Newport Harbor High School between 1991 and 1995.

She graduated from CSULB with a degree in kinesiology/fitness in 2002. She earned a master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University. She currently serves as director of volleyball operations and head coach of the women’s indoor and beach team at LBCC.

May-Treanor’s role as co-chair will be to advise the council on programs and initiatives that educate, engage and empower all Americans to lead a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity and good nutrition.

Former pro football player Herschel Junior Walker and former New York Yankees’ closer Mariano Rivera will also be appointed as co-chairs. All members will serve a two-year term.

Trump will also appoint New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and celebrity surgeon Dr. Oz among dozens of others as members of the council, which also serve two-year terms.
