Great Time to Buy BP Stock!

It’s a great time to buy BP stock!  Not because I believe in the company.  Not because the company made a profit of $16.9 BILLION last year.  Not because of the charming CEO, Tony Heyward earned $6 million last year (despite profits dropping 45%).  But because I believe in the disgracefully myopic American public.  Pitifully, Americans know how to forget best.

Remember the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill?  There were rallies, protests, cries of consumer boycotts, demands for the company to give all it’s profits to the clean-up and fire the CEO Lawrence Rawl.  Sound familiar?  So what happened to Exxon?  “Last year’s results followed a record-breaking 2008, when Exxon recorded the highest profit ever for a U.S. company + $45.2 billion.  Still, Exxon will remain the highest-earning company in the S&P 500 index, a rank it’s held since 2000.”  The New York Daily News, Feb. 2nd, 2010 Nice job America.  And we wonder why there is another oil crisis.

Americans are too naive, too self-centered, and have no reason to change their ways.  The only way Americans change their luxurious habits (we all live in luxury in comparison to a majority of the world) is when we are inconvenienced.  Remember when gas was $4.00 a gallon?  That is when Americans started to think (not act), but think differently.  “Green” meant more than a cool term to slap on everything.  It actually started to have some relevance to the general public.  Americans need to be inconvenienced again.  The government needs to tax gas $2.00 per gallon, raising the price to $5.00 per gallon and give ALL proceeds to our schools.  Man, I’m a genius! 😉

I’m thoroughly appalled by the apocalyptic crisis caused by BP in the Gulf, but sadly I’m more appalled at Americans lack of action to truly change.  I’m confident that BP will survive or be bought out by another oil company, in a few years the American public will forget about this disaster, the BP-New Oil Company will continue to be profitable, and in 10 years a bigger crisis will be the ultimate result.  Hopefully, we will make it that long as the ever-increasing world population will eventually consume all the earth’s resources…especially if we keep destroying our natural resources.

If you believe in America, go buy BP stock.

  1. Damn. Well said.

  2. I agree with you. I pass by BP stations all the time and people continue to pump their gas there. I'm like, “Wow, what the hell are you doing?”

Some say, “It's not BPs fault, it was an accident.” and thats completely false. It has come out recently that BP employees cut corners and did not follow regulations on the rig. What caused the explosion was not an accident, but rather a problem that was occurring for a few months that they ignored because it would have interrupted drilling (profits). It's despicable and I think anyone that continues to pump gas at their stations when this leak continues to spew enough oil to fill up a football stadium every hour are just idiots.

The good thing about your post is that rich people make money off of idiots and there are a lot of idiots in this country. I might just do this… 🙂

  3. I was actually looking into the stock price today. I have to sadly agree with you.

  4. I'm waiting until the BP stock plunges a little further to buy it, my verdict would be buy in a couple months. Why? because at the moment BP is dealing with a crisis and Obama just handed them a $68 million bill for clean up, and the costs will only increase for BP. But they are a giant, and in a few months they will be right back on their feet again, even after this disaster. In the meantime I've got some other investments under way thanks to this blog I found, I think it's got some pretty good ideas. here's the link if you're interested http://theinvestmentreporter.wordpress.com/
