USA Volleyball in the World Cup

Soccer’s World Cup, which comes around once every four years, has a great following around the world.  Even the US had a great audience for those games.  Low and behold, Volleyball has a World Cup.  How many of us know that the USA Women just took silver at the FIVB World Cup?  Unfortunately, not enough of us know about this awesome competition.

Here is a quote from Doug Beal, USA Volleyball CEO:

Today is a VERY GOOD day for USA Volleyball, as our women’s team has performed in spectacular fashion and secured a spot in the London Olympics at the World Cup in Japan.  Last night they defeated previously undefeated ITA to guarantee themselves a top 3 finish (they are currently the top team in the event with a final match against host Japan much later today).  The 3 medal finishers at this event will join host Great Britain as the first qualifiers for the London Games.  This marks the 3rd consecutive Olympic Games that our women have been among the first teams to secure an Olympic berth.  Congratulations to the players, Hugh and his terrific staff.  The men’s World Cup begins Sunday and we wish them the best as they also pursue early qualification.  ON TO LONDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now it’s the USA Men’s turn.  The men suffered a defeat last night by #1 ranked Brazil and will take on the Russians tonight.  Unfortunately, these matches are not well televised, but Sport Lemon is a way to view the matches:

SportLemon will provide a number of different links for each match.   Sometimes the first link will work, somtimes it’s the last one, give every link a little bit of time to load, it can be kind of fickle, but you will always find the match eventually.

A pity we have to go through this trouble to watch these incredible matches, but at least technology enables us to watch these matches.  Enjoy!
