Posted on 08 January 2013 by Chuck Rey

misty may gold medal 13 Volleyball Quotes for 2013 volleyballA recent Inc. article came out with 12 motivational quotes for 2013 (why 12, I don’t know?). So I decided to embark upon a journey to find 13 volleyball quotes for 2013. Unfortunately, it was more difficult than I imagined. Quotes of many of our great coaches and players are scarcely found throughout the internet. Google searches found some poor selections. I literally read through a number of journal articles to find many of these quotes. The task ended up being quite rewarding as I learned a bit through the research. Following are my findings icon wink 13 Volleyball Quotes for 2013 volleyball

1. “Most change is evolutionary, not revolutionary. As we start a new year, let’s find the practicable and ‘celebrate-able'; let’s stay congruent with our messaging, creative in our efficiency, and, most of all, let’s give ourselves new opportunities to dream.” ~ Kathy DeBoer Continue Reading

Achieving Versus Over-Achieving – Volleyball 4.0

Posted on 01 January 2012 by Chuck Rey

With the New Year here, I wanted to express one of my New Year’s Resolutions.  I probably should be working on CoachRey.org website, but I learned that I had to delete all the work put in last week and reinstall, so I’m a little discouraged at the moment.  My mind is wandering… Continue Reading

carl mcgown avca convention 300x200 AVCA Convention – How Lucky We Are volleyballThis past week in Kansas City at the AVCA Convention and Final Four was thoroughly enjoyable.  It was 24 hours of volleyball.  Blissful.

Even though volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the world, we, in the United States, are fortunate it has not blown-up yet (it will).  It provides us the accessibility for legends Continue Reading

USA Volleyball Competitive Cauldron

usa boys volleyball tryout 300x198 USA Volleyball Competitive Cauldron volleyballDean Smith, famed University of North Carolina basketball coach, created the concept of a cauldron.  The cauldron is a system in which a player is graded in practices and matches. Points are awarded for a player’s performances in drills and the number of times his team wins in scrimmages. Anson Dorrance, the great University of North Carolina Women’s Soccer Coach, talks about it in his book Training Soccer Champions.   Many elite USA Volleyball Coaches recommend this book and it is where volleyball grasped the idea of creating a volleyball cauldron. Terry Pettit Hugh McCutcheon 300x150 Tell a Story volleyballAt the last AVCA Convention, I listened to Hall of Fame Coach Terry Pettit’s seminar on Program Building: The Part They Didn’t Tell You About. Terry’s message in the seminar was about telling a story.  I also read an article written by Kathy DeBoer AVCA Executive Director on USA Men’s Olympic Team Gold Medal Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon in the AVCA Coaching Volleyball Magazine, June – July 2009 issue, Building a Sustainable Model of Success (click here to read the article).  Hugh’s message, “Coaches are sales people first, then change agents.  We define principles as absolute truths, and work from there to as oppose to coerce thoughtful dialogue is the key”. Marketing Your Program – The Obama Way

Posted on 14 March 2009 by Chuck Rey

Let me preface this blog: this is not a political blog, this is purely marketing.

Fast Company Magazine, March 2009 issue, ranked The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies. #1 wasn’t Google, not Apple, nor Hulu (and if you don’t know Hulu, this blog’s for you), it was Team Obama. The headline reads, “The year’s most successful start-up took a skinny kid with a funny name and turned him into the most powerful new national brand in a generation.” The headline hits a soft spot; I’m a skinny kid, without the funny name. Maybe I’ll be President yet! icon wink Marketing Your Program The Obama Way volleyball Continue Reading

Posted on 13 March 2009 by Chuck Rey

I received an email from a coach asking for feedback about players that miss practices and tournaments when part of a small club. Your feedback on this subject is appreciated too. Continue Reading
